How might you describe your work to a first time viewer?
My work is inspired by intense observation that somehow guides me through the process of painting. I react to visual stimuli, as well as physical and emotional sensations. It feels like a rush of excitement that becomes more focused and usually challenging if I keep on pushing - not thinking about where I’m going or what it’s going to look like at the end.

What drives you to create?
Good question. I’m not really sure! It feels like a part of my being and comes naturally… although not always easily. That’s the challenge and probably what keeps me going.

A dream plein air travel destination?
Rome, Florence…would love to rent a villa somewhere in Italy!

Artist’s Statement

"My approach to making art is guided by intense observation of the subject, be it a landscape, figure or domestic interior, and influenced by emotion and memory. The act of painting releases a stream of consciousness and creative energy that reveals my view of reality, which is not always what I expect to see. The tension between visual perception and engaging with the paint itself guides my process. It straddles the line between realism and abstraction. Nothing excites me more than finding the right color, loading the brush, and applying paint to the canvas or panel. Painting leaves a record of my experience. It is my most poignant and genuine means of expression."
