Sometimes You Bring Me Flowers
A special collection of floral works at The Willard Gallery
October 22 - December 31
Inspired by the first line in a poem by Maine writer, Holly Wren Spaulding, our Sometimes You Bring Me Flowers collection is The Willard Gallery’s ode to all things floral. Much like the flowers we grow in our gardens, take a moment to admire in nature, or use to celebrate the big and small moments in life, these works flow from vivid to subdued and delicate to bold. The tablescapes or handcrafted vases overflowing with blooms might be imagined, while some depictions are drawn from tangible memories, the natural world, or still life moments.
As many of us in Maine begin to retreat indoors for the season, we are grateful for the opportunity to share these hopeful, vibrant works with you. Thank you for taking the time to appreciate them.

Sometimes you bring me flowers,
pale pink or orange,
depending on the season.
This means we have not forsaken
what exists between us.
They take up water, sugar,
take in light.
Molecule, molecule, life.
Most days this is enough.
The fragrance alone,
the fractal shapes,
and the way such small things
will open and keep opening.
