Julie Bowers Murphy: The World’s Behind You

We're thrilled to share the latest collection of Maine-inspired paintings by Julie Bowers Murphy: The World's Behind You.

"Whenever I'm in Maine I feel as though I can truly exhale, enjoy the beauty of the landscape, and leave the world behind me. Thinking others may feel that way too when in Maine."
- Julie Bowers Murphy

Julie was inspired by the palette of Alfred Hitchcock's 1963 film The Birds with its smoky purples, greens, and a pop of red. Additionally, the pastels of Necco wafers and the soft hues of the Halls of Gems and Minerals at the American Museum of Natural History served as additional palette inspiration.

It was great fun to be able to visit Julie at her home and studio in Rowayton, Connecticut and take the photographs that accompany this collection of her paintings. I loved hearing more about the inspiration for this body of work and learning which paintings were her family members’ favorites. After spending that time with Julie in her home environment, I now see so much of her in these eleven paintings that make up The World’s Behind You.
