Sometimes You Bring Me Flowers
We’re excited to share our 2024 fall floral collection: Sometimes You Bring Me Flowers!
Inspiration to mix things up a bit struck while selecting new floral works from Bayard Hollins to bring to the gallery this fall, and I realized that we were sorely in need of a special collection dedicated to all things floral this autumn season.
Eight of our gallery artists committed to sending along at least one new floral painting for this show, while we invited three guest artists to partake in showing their work at The Willard Gallery for the first time: cee & she, Tessa Greene O’Brien, and Bill Tansey.
The title of the collection is taken from the first line in a poem by Maine writer, Holly Wren Spaulding. A friend of both the gallery and a few of the artists we are lucky to work with, Holly chose a painting by Melanie Parke for the cover of the chapbook that includes our inspiration poem, “Code.” Having Holly’s words as the inspiration behind this collection of floral works feels truly fitting.
As many of us in Maine begin to retreat indoors for the season, we are grateful for the opportunity to share these hopeful, vibrant works with you. Thank you for taking the time to appreciate them and we hope you’ll make a time to come see them in person at our cottage gallery in South Portland’s Willard Square.
